Currently, he is considered one of the best hepatologists internationally. Dr. Carreño is a member of the European and American Societies for the Study of Liver Diseases. He trained as a doctor and received his doctorate in 1985 from the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Madrid. He developed his international career in Research Centers in Oxford, Berlin and London.
Among the most important achievements made by the FEHV, is the discovery in 2004 of a new form of hepatitis, which has been called “hidden hepatitis C virus infection“, published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases of the USA. These studies had a great impact, appearing more than 100 news about them in the national and international written media, as well as in the news of the television networks and radio programs.
