It is characterized by inflammation and destruction of the bile canaliculi which are the ducts through which bile is secreted and which pass through the liver. This disease is also known as primary biliary cirrhosis, although this name is not correct since not all people who suffer from it have liver cirrhosis.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-3d8d0d1 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"3d8d0d1\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-8547adf\" data-id=\"8547adf\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c73d38f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c73d38f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4>Causes of cholangitis<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b1eb2b1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b1eb2b1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The disease is <strong>caused by the attack of the immune system<\/strong> (defenses) of the patient to the epithelium of the bile canaliculi (cells that form the wall of the canaliculi). The destruction of the bile canaliculi causes the accumulation of bile acids (components of bile) and other toxic substances in hepatocytes (liver cells) destroying them. This drug manages to avoid inflammation and destruction of liver cells (normalization of liver parameters) in 70% of treated people. The UDCA presents an excellent tolerance, although some patients may notice bloating (gas), increased intestinal rhythm and digestive discomfort. If the patient does not respond to treatment with UDCA, immunosuppressive drugs (cortisone, etc.) can be added.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-6a64ff0 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"6a64ff0\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Chronic nonsuppurative destructive cholangitis is associated with the development of osteoporosis<\/strong> and, therefore, the use of vitamin D and calcium supplements is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>As previously mentioned, patients with chronic non-suppurative destructive cholangitis may have pruritus (generalized itching) of great intensity requiring pharmacological treatment (resins, antihistamines, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>Finally, if the disease continues to progress and ends in liver cirrhosis, it is necessary to resort to liver transplantation.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section
